Residency Interview Experience Bronx Lebanon Hospital Internal Medicine

It was my 7th interview of the season. It was kinda strange or I must say weird. I had my interview in the evening session.
There were more than 10 people in the group. No one was really present to receive or greet the
candidates.
No Program Director or Associate Program Director. No one from the faculty. Even not the chief
or any of the residents or intern. Even the Coordinator wasn't there. We were asked to sit in the conference room by some sub-assistant of the coordinator.
She seemed to be very tired and sleepy. Trying hard to keep her eyes open. The interview started
2 hours late as the faculty wasn't back form the clinics.
Thanks God one of our fellow candidate has a bottle of water otherwise we would have to remain thirsty, stuck in the overheated conference room for many hours.
There wasn't any sort of video or live presentation about the program. We were given a few pages of poor quality printed material to read. That was quiet boring.

THE ACTUAL INTERVIEW

Although the attending s were there for the interview, but I think even an intern could have
done that,
Reading the question from printed performa to the candidate and then fill in the blank lines
with the answers. Even a simple computer software could have done the job.

THE QUESTIONS

I was not informed of any sort of obligation, not to relaese the quesitons for the benefit of
my peers, so here they are.

Why Bornx Lebanon?

Why Internal Medicne?

How did you come to know about this program?

Any Interesting Case?

Any Challennging Clinical Situation which you encountered during your medical career?

What biggest Challange do you anticipate while doing your resideny here?

What are the things which you would like to avoid during your residency?

How would you deal with the challenging patinets? Have you seen any challanging
patients in your medical career?

How would you deal with the paramedical staff, what should be the type of relationship
between physicins and the nurses etc?

Do you know spanish?

Would you exchange duties with your colleagues and accomodate them?

What medical material, book are you reading now a days?

Any research experience?

How do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

Any questions about the program?

THE ROUND

I am thankful to a 2nd year resident, who took the pain to show us the hospital although she seemed to be very tired.

She showed us the ICU, ER, Floors, Cafeteria and the Golden Coin Accepting Coca Cola and
Sandwich Machine.
It was my first interview in which they just showed us the drinks and sandwiches, lol

GENERAL IMPRESSION

Despite the above discussion, I would like to accept a prematch, One should be honest folks.
Out of 30-33 seats, I thinks less than 20 go in the match. Rest are prematches and off cycles.
So for 15-20 seats, calling 1000 people and interviewing 800-900 people and appointing 25-30
attendings for interviewing seems to be a bit strange.

Another strange part is that the PD doesnt interview any one. So how he standerdizes 25-30 interviewers is not known. My be the perforama is a solution.

The PD at Bronx Lebanon is a psychotic arrogant fellow- divorced twice...the second time he married one of the residents and tortured her...then he dated some attending there and made her chief of medicine which led many senior faculty to resign..so shameful....don't join that program unless you are desperate...I heard it from an ex-resident....he also tortures residents who want to go for fellowships by not giving LORA in time...absolutely unethical and unprofessional....sooner or later he will be reported to ACGME by some pissed resident
